Hi All, not really an entrepreneur opportunity but verry much related...I've just been talking to the director of small company in Glasgow who design digital signage who are looking to recruit a good graphics programmer. If anyone is interested drop me a line and I'll provide more information and contact details.

kinda thinking out of the box. It might fit with what The STIG has said in his new discussion on creating total student independance (well, almost) from the labs. if you have your own stuff then you are halfway there. We might need to set up a STIG group to plan the future of the labs. 1st years are ideal as you have a loooong (sounds depressing) way to go yet!

That's a really good idea that I'm very interested in even though that's me just finished 1st year. It'll be like a year of uni without classes. Just get together with some friends, set a project, and work on it all year. Sounds awesome!

I guess it's this kind of thing that employers are looking for? Is it possible to go abroad and do this or would you suggest staying put or keeping domestic at least? I guess if there's nothing official tied to UWS and a year abroad there would almost be no point...

Anyways, thanks for the info John!

We are now looking at leaning HARD on the CGD students to take a year out to do something truly entrepreneurial. ike the language degrees at St Andrews where students do 3 years, go to a country for a year, come back to do year 4. Mixed with the Abertay Embrionix business start-up centre.

I bugged the Media School bods to ask if we can get some students onto the enterprise steering group (this brings up pictures in my of dodgy TV space dramas!)

I think that any initiative that is for students should involve students. 38minutes is good. I also find linkedin.com useful, but it may be a bit ott for students as yet.

Anyone interested seriously in this should also join the 38minutes network on ning - http://38minutes.ning.com/ and the NextGen group in that network. There are also irregular lunch/coffee meetings in glasgow - good for making connections. May also help identify sources of funding to get your company off the ground.

Margaret tells me there will be a UWS Production Company. I would hope students would have a prominent role ...
