Blitz Games Studios

Blitz Games Studios offer Open Days in 2010!

This is to let you know that registration is now open for next year's Open Days and to encourage applications from students involved in relevant courses (this does not rule out courses which don't have 'games' in the title; it could include for example Computer Science, Audio Technology or Illustration).

As always, the aim is to give people who want to work in games a chance to experience a little of the reality of the industry, to give them a feel for what the work entails and to pass on helpful information and experience from our talented and enthusiastic employees. The day includes overview presentations from the main games disciplines - 2D Art, 3D Art, Animation, Audio, Game Design, Programming, Project Management and Quality Assurance - as well as talks by Andrew and Philip Oliver about the business side. There is also a studio tour, followed by the chance to discuss individual portfolios or demos and areas of particular interest with Blitz developers, and ask them even more questions!

Full details of how to apply and the registration form can be found here: http://www.blitzgamesstudios.com/blitz_academy/open_days/

There are three days planned for 2010. The first is on Friday 26th February and is open to all first and second year students studying relevant courses. The last Open Day is on Friday 19th March and is open to all final year students studying relevant courses.

The second Open Day on Friday 5th March is specifically reserved for Animation students at any stage of their courses. We have not yet scheduled any lecturers’ days for 2010.

Student applications must be supported by a work sample, for which the closing date is Monday 11th January 2010.

All the days are free to attend, running from 09.00 - 17.00. Lunch and refreshments are provided and there is usually the option to come to the pub with us afterwards ;-) Please note that we cannot offer assistance with travel expenses.

Please pass this information onto your students and/or colleagues running suitable courses and if you have any further questions, please contact us at Education@BlitzGamesStudios.com.

We look forward to seeing some of your students next year!

Best regards,

Kim Blake

The Work sample part of that, is that Demo's of games we've created they are after?

The application form is asking for a main lecturer and their email.

Anyone wanna volunteer themselves as main lecturer?

I volunteer John Sutherland ;-)

Yes, samples of work would be the *best* examples of work you have - so game demos or (better) actual playable games wot you have wrote.

Which day should we apply for if we are in third year?

I say the final year students one but Phil says the non-final year (says first and second year students) because England has different degrees (or so he claims).

Reply to This

Most English degrees are only 3 years long. They don't have the concept of a separate "Honours year"; rather, their "Honours" just means you met a particular standard in your 3-year degree.

(That's why you should always stay on for Honours year if you can, otherwise folks in England will think you didn't do very well in uni.)

Aarrgghh. I was just going to say 'Daniel Livingstone cos he posted the thread'! OK, put me down as the main man. Its true what Peter sez about English hons degrees. I once asked 'how can you do a full degree in 3 years?' which produced the retort, 'why dows it take you one year more?'

Apparently Cambridge uni's engineering degrees are 4 years, so we're in good company. Of course, their graduates automatically get a Masters if they haven't gone bankrupt, got divorced, or landed in jail within 4 years or so of graduation. Lazy bunch...
